What do we mean by Kanbans with limited turns?
In KanbanBOX, when we talk about kanbans with limited turns we refer to a quantity limit sets for a specific kanban loop, that affects the number of maximum replenishments released to the supplier. For example, for a kanban loop with kanban quantity sets at 100 pieces and a quantity limit sets at 1000 pieces, maximum number of kanbans released to the supplier are 10. When you reach the limit, KanbanBOX would block all following kanban releases, holding kanbans in Empty status.
Quantity limit is used for:
- Manage open orders with the supplier, by limiting kanban cards turns until the complete consumption of the quantity in open order.
- Components with change of part number or technical draw, to run out remaining stock at supplier before sending a new kanban order for the new part number or technical draw.
- Manage kanban orders for a particular contract order, to manage kanban replenishments till the completion of the contract order.
What does a kanban loop with quantity limit look like?
Set quantity limit, in kanban boards you can see details about limit set by clicking the heading of that kanban loop.
You can see:
- Remaining quantity before reaching the limit.
- Number of remaining releases.
Before reaching the limit, KanbanBOX can send an alert by coloring the heading and by sending an email to the Manager user of that particular kanban loop. A yellow mark colors the heading to notify the user that kanban quantity limit is almost reached. Otherwise, by clicking the heading, you can always see remaining quantity and remaining releases before reaching the limit.
When limit is reached, KanbanBOX sends a second alert to Manager user about limit reached and kanban loop blocked. In addition, a red mark colors the heading precisely to highlight kanban loop that has reached the limit. After reaching the limit, KanbanBOX blocks all released card of that kanban loop and sets them in empty status, with no possibility to set a forward status.
Set a quantity limit
Procedure:
- In
Kanban boards, search or filter the specific kanban loop to limit.
- Click on the heading of that kanban loop and then click on
Manage limit.

In the new page, click on
Modify limit and then select Yes next to Set kanban loop limit.

Fill these fields:
- New quantity limit: is the quantity limit in pieces or other unit of measure. When reached, customer cannot release any other kanban cards to the supplier. The number of pieces can match quantity of the contract order with the supplier, or the residual stock in warehouse or a quantity for a specific order in contract.
- Send an alert when the remaining is less than: set a quantity less then quantity limit. When reached, KanbanBOX sends an alert by email and highlights the heading in yellow to warn that limit is almost reached.
- Click on
Save.
Update a quantity limit
Procedure:
- In
Kanban boards, search or filter the specific kanban loop at which update the quantity limit.
- Click on the heading of that kanban loop and then click on
Manage limit.
- In the new page, click on
Modify limit and then select Yes next to Set kanban loop limit.
- Update or not:
- New quantity limit.
- Send an alert when the remaining is less than.
- Click on
Save.
Delete a quantity limit
Procedure:
- In
Kanban boards, search or filter the specific kanban loop at which delete the quantity limit.
- Click on the heading of that kanban loop and then click on
Manage limit.
- In the new page, click on
Modify limit and then select No next to Set kanban loop limit.
- Click on
Save.
