What is the FIFO Report?
The FIFO Report shows how often each kanban card on the board is overtaken by other cards in the same loop. It updates automatically whenever a card change status.
For each kanban card, the table displays the following information:
- No. of overtaking cards: shows how many times the card has been overtaken by other cards from the same loop;
- % overtaking: shows the card's overtaking percentage, calculated as the ratio between the number of overtakes and the total number of cards in the loop.
The critical threshold is set at 100%: when the card’s overtaking percentage is equal to or greater than 100%, it means the card has been overtaken by every other card in the same loop.
The higher this percentage, the more attention the card requires. For this reason, we recommend sorting the table by overtaking percentage in descending order.
Main causes of a high number of overtakes
A high number of overtakes is usually due to:
- The container is physically present but is no longer in stock, meaning the container has probably been lost. If the container cannot be found, the card quantity should be set to zero and the card should be set as Released.
- The container has been consumed, but the card was not set as Released. In this case, the card must be set as Released, as the loop is currently circulating with one fewer card. A comparison between the stock level in KanbanBOX and the inventory in the ERP system may reveal a higher stock quantity in KanbanBOX than in the ERP.
For each card, the history of its kanban loop can be accessed by clicking the
Kanban loop status icon, in the Operations column.
