What’s a template?
A Template is the default model that can graphically set:
- The kanban card.
- Layout and number of kanban card per page to print.
Default Templates library
It’s possible to choose a new template from the templates library.
Procedure:
- Get in
Print >
Templates library.
- After choosing the favorite template, click
Add to your templates. Now you can find this template in the template list and it’s possible to set this as default for a category of kanban cards or all active kanban cards.
How to update a template
You can update format and features of every single kanban card simply by changing the template of that kanban card.
Procedure:
- Get in
Print >
Templates list.
- In template row, click
Edit template.

In the new window, fill following data:
Field Description Template name Identification of the template. Template type PDF: the printing output is in PDF format. ZPL: the printing output is in ZPL format.
Destination Default: kanban card printing will follow the user settings. Print queue: when you print kanban card, you send it in print queue.
Direct to print: when you print kanban card, you send it directly to the printer, without sending it in print queue.
Action Default: kanban card printing will follow the user settings. PDF Download: download a PDF document with the kanban card directly from the browse.
Open PDF file in browser: open PDF document directly from the browser in the same window.
Open PDF file in a new window: open PDF document directly from the browser in a new window.
Open PDF file in a popup window: open PDF document directly from the browser as a popup in the same window.
Kanban Click Edit Front to change kanban card layout of this template with policy Kanban. Signal kanban Click Edit Front to change kanban card layout of this template with policy Signal kanban. Batch kanban Click Edit Front to change kanban card layout of this template with policy Batch kanban. Paper size Paper size standard. It’s possible to choose a default standard (A4 size, A5, etc.) or a custom size (for example, 100x50mm label, or 65x35mm, etc.). Paper width If select a standard paper, standard paper width or fill a custom paper width [millimeters]. Paper height If select a standard paper, standard paper height or fill a custom paper width [millimeters]. Paper orientation Portrait: the paper is oriented vertically. Landscape: the paper is oriented horizontally.
Margin top (A) Paper top margin [millimeters]. Margin left (B) Paper left margin [millimeters]. Margin right (C) Paper right margin [millimeters]. Margin bottom (D) Paper bottom margin [millimeters]. Column width (E) Columns width in the paper [millimeters]. Number of columns Number of columns set in the paper. Row height (F) Row height in the paper [millimeters]. Horizontal spacing (G) Space between columns [millimeters]. Row spacing (H) Space between rows [millimeters]. Number of card per page Maximum total number of kanban cards per page. Global zoom factor Zoom factor for printing kanban cards. -
You need to set a specific kanban card layout for every policy: kanban, signal kanban and batch kanban.
Why do I need to set it for the three options of policy?
Because signal kanban and batch kanban need some information (reorder point and number of kanban cards in batch) unnecessary for the other policies to put in the card.
In the Kanban card layout, by clicking Edit front, you get in the Template editor.
In the preview, you can see the template size and variables included. The template preview is always visible and updated on the right side of the screen. Like an excel spreadsheet, for every row and column you can:
Insert a new row before or
insert a new column before.
Delete a row or
delete a column.
Set row height or
set column width.
To insert the specific variable in the kanban card, select the cell, then search and select the variable in the drop-down list and finally click Insert. To modify the layout, use buttons in the top:

- Once choose the variables, save cell content by clicking Save. After completing all the card layout, click
Back to the template page to come back in the previous page.
- Once check all the fields, click
Save template.
Create a new template
You can create a template from a blank one, too.
Procedure:
- Get in
Print >
New template.
- Fill all the fields for the new template and, at the end, click
Save Template.
- You can find the new template in
Templates list.
Export and import templates
You can export and import existing templates in different licenses.
Procedure for the export:
- Get in
Print >
Templates list.
- In template row, click
Export the template in JSON format. A JSON file containing the template will be exported.
Procedure for the import:
- Get in
Print >
Templates list.
- In the header of the table, click
Import the template in JSON format.
- In the window that opens, click Choose file and select the JSON file of a template already exported.
- Click on
Save.
Export and import templates layouts
You can export and import existing templates layouts in different licenses.
Procedure:
- Get in
Print >
Templates list.
- In template row, click
Edit template.
- Get in the editor of the template you want to modify by clicking on Edit Front.
- Click on the
download or
upload button in the grey box named Import/export layout in the top right based on the action you need to do:
- Export the template layout: click on the
download button. A JSON file containing the template layout will be exported.
- Import the template layout: click on the
upload button. In the window that opens, click on Choose file and select the JSON file of a template already exported and then click on
Save.
- Export the template layout: click on the
