What’s a bin?
In KanbanBOX, a bin is a generic container or receptacle meant to store a specified quantity of parts, as indicated by the kanban card.
Here are some examples:
- Europallet: Pallet 1200x800 mm
- Box: supplier packing
- Plastic box n.1: standard plastic box 160x110x80
- Iron case: standard iron container 1200x800x800
Fields of the bin master data
Field | Description |
---|---|
Bin name | Bin name (code if necessary). |
Description | Bin description. |
Image | Bin image. Maximum size 2 MB. |
Bin number | Bin identification code: with ERP integration, the bin number must be the same both in the ERP and in KanbanBOX. |
Weight | Tare weight of the bin. The bin weight and the parts weight (weight of a single part multiplied by the number of parts) are added to calculate the total kanban weight. |
Length | Bin length. In combination with the bin width and height, it is used to estimate the overall bin capacity. |
Width | Bin width. |
Height | Bin height. |
Custom field 1, 2, 3 | Bin custom fields. To rename these fields, go to ![]() |
It is also possible to add a validation rule for some of these fields. To know more, see Custom field validation.
Add a new bin
Procedure:
- Get in
Master data >
Bins >
Add new bin;
- Fill in the master data fields;
- Click on
Save.
Edit a bin
Procedure:
- Get in
Master data >
Bins >
Bins list;
- Search or filter for the bin to edit: on the corresponding row, click on
Edit bin;
- Click on
Save.
Delete a bin
Before deleting a bin, check if the bin is used in a kanban loop or for a kanban card.
Procedure:
- Get in
Master data >
Bins >
Bins list;
- Search or filter for the bin to delete: on the corresponding row, click on
Delete bin;
- Click on
Save.
